The remains of Alan Hawe, who murdered his wife and three children at their home in a murder-suicide last year, were this morning exhumed from the family grave.
Hawe, who was a deputy primary school principal, killed his wife Clodagh and children Liam (14), Niall (11) and Ryan (6) at the family home in Castlerahan in County Cavan on 29 August last year before taking his own life.
His body was removed from the grave early this morning by undertakers in the presence of Gardaí.
It has been taken to Glasnevin Crematorium in Dublin
Hawe had been buried alongside his wife and children in a graveyard at St Mary’s Church in Castlerahan last year but it is understood that his family took the decision to separate him from them.
The Independent reports that Ms Hawe’s family asked for them to be removed some time ago.
