An unnamed woman in her 20s has been allowed to undergo euthanasia via lethal injection in the Netherlands according to reports.
The Independent report that the woman had suffered sexual abuse for a decade until the age of 15, according to papers made public by the Dutch Euthanasia Commission.
As a result of her ordeal, the woman suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder, severe anorexia, depression and hallucinations. She was almost entirely confined to her bed.
The unnamed woman in her 20s had suffered sexual abuse from the age of five to 15, according to the documents released by the Dutch Euthanasia Commission.
Although intensive therapy made an improvement as regards the woman’s mental health, doctors believed her conditions were incurable and agreed to her wish to die with their assistance.
Her psychiatrist noted: “There was no prospect or hope for her. The patient experienced her suffering as unbearable”.
This news has caused some debate in circles between those that are campaigning for assisted dying to be permitted in other countries, and those who believe the practice should be disallowed completely.
