Bone found on the bank of the River Shannon is believed to be human

Investigations are underway after a bone was found on the bank of the River Shannon.

The bone, which was discovered at Doonass, Clonlara, Co Clare, is believed to be a human bone. The area is on the Clare/Limerick border and is close to Limerick City.

The bone, which is believed to be a shin bone, was found yesterday afternoon and has since been brought to the University Hospital Limerick for testing to establish whether or not it belonged to a human.

Gardai have sealed off the area where it was found and further examinations are taking place.

It’s expected that an update will be issued today.
