A 65-year-old repair worker from West Cork was killed this afternoon while carrying out storm damage repair in Cork.
According to the Irish Examiner, the Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority have both begun investigations into the incident.
It is believed that the man in question was working for a subcontractor hired by Eircom to replace damaged poles following the storm between Glengarriffe and Adrigole.
The accident occurred when a pole that was being erected fell and hit him, causing serious head injuries.
Two colleagues raised the alarm, the emergency services were notified but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Examiner reports that the Gardai are treating the death as a tragic accident. His body was removed to Cork University Hospital and will undergo a post-mortem later today.
