Up to 2,000 people are feared dead after terrorist group Boko Haram launched a vicious attack on several Nigerian communities.

The group targeted the city of Baga, as well as 16 other towns, as fighting continued on the country’s northern border and the incident is now being described as “among the most deadly terror attacks in history”.

According to The Guardian, district head Baba Abba Hassan said most victims are children, women and elderly people who could not run fast enough when insurgents drove into Baga, firing rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles on town residents.

It’s believed that the killing had been going on since Boko Haram overran a nearby military base on Saturday.
