A 19-year old teen has been released on bail in Belfast, while police investigate the circumstances surrounding a 12-year old girl’s pregnancy.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, the teen was arrested in the Lenadoon area and has since been release pending further inquiries and medical checks.
Due to the girl’s age, if the teenager is found to have had sexual relations with the girl, he will be charged with rape which carries a life sentence on conviction.
The PSNI last night confirmed that police arrested a 19-year-old man in the west Belfast area on Thursday, October 1, in relation to a sexual offence.
A police spokesman added:
“The man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
