It’s a song that spawned hundreds of YouTube tributes, various cover versions and somehow managed to get stuck in everyone’s head for the past three months and now? Now it’s been crowned the ‘Song of the Summer’ in the good old USA.
We’re pretty sure you know what song we’re talking about here. We’ll give you a hint – it’s all about begging someone to call you, like, maybe? Yes, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe ranked so high in the Billboard chart this summer, that it has officially been named the song of the season.
The Billboard ‘Song of the Summer’ is determined by the overall performance of hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between Memorial Day and Labour Day in the States.
Needless to say, the fact that Call Me Maybe managed to stay in the number one position for like, AGES, probably helped to seal the deal for Carly. You have to admit though, even now it’s still a pretty catchy tune. You know you’d definitely hit the floor with your girls if this came on in a nightclub and start making ‘call me’ gestures with your hands.

Do you think Carly’s Call Me Maybe deserves the title of Song of the Summer?
Other songs that were noted on the chart included Maroon 5’s Payphone, Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye and Katy Perry’s Wide Awake.
Call Me Maybe catapulted Carly Rae to stardom and already netted her a Teen Choice Award, unfortunately she just missed out on blagging herself a VMA for Best New Artist at last night’s MTV Awards.
So, to sing out the summer, here’s Carly’s Call Me Maybe (we’re sorry, we had to do it. And we so know you’re already singing it in your head…)
