Same Old, Same Old: Researchers say Pop Music is “All The Same”

According to some new research, Lady Gaga sounds exactly like Cheryl Cole and Cheryl Cole sounds exactly like Madonna...eh...what?!

Now, those of us who tear up the dance-floor on a Saturday night usually have no problem when it comes to knowing our Lady Gaga from our J.Lo, but according to some research, pop music is starting to sound the same.

Yes, if your dad has ever moaned that Rita Ora sounds exactly like Rhianna, chances are he might have been on to something.

The Irish Daily Star reports that songs by popular artists like Gaga and J.Lo are getting more similar, even louder and less complicated, according to some scientists.

These boffins used computers to study half a million chart songs released between the years of 1955 and 2010. What did they discover (other than a newfound love of Nicki Minaj)? Well they found that pop songs are becoming more alike as the years go by.

All the same: is it time we changed our taste in music?

So basically it doesn’t matter if we listen to Madonna, The Wanted or Justin Timberlake – it’s all exactly the same.

The study revealed that music is louder than ever, thanks to the introduction of deep bass and high-pitched computer-generated sounds.

“Music today is less artistic and more commercial,” said Martin Haro, a researcher from Columbia University in the United States.

Hey, all we’re saying is, as long as it has a good beat and we can dance and sing along to it, we don’t care if it sounds exactly like everything else that has gone before.

What do you think ladies? Do you agree?
