Looks Like The MTV Europe Music Awards Is Having A Bit Of An Identity Crisis- Only 2 Winners Are Actually European!

The great and the good of music... and eh Jedward descended on the German city of Frankfurt last night for MTV's annual European Music Awards.

The show, hosted by German native Heidi Klum is supposed to represent and celebrate European artists but this year America and Canada took home the majority of the awards winning 14 of the 17 categories!

Carly Rae Johnson’s catchy summer tune Call Me Maybe picked up the award for Best Song and the Canadian pop star also took home the award for the Best Push category after she was named ‘one to watch’ following her appearing on MTV Push, a show which promotes and supports new artists.

Canadian Carly Rae Johnson scooped up two awards.

Fellow Canadian Justin Bieber bagged the awards for Best Male Act, Best Pop Act and Best World Stage while serial dater and country star Taylor Swift scooped up the awards for Best Female Act, Best Live Act and Best Look.

Taylor adds to her collection of trophies.

Predictably boy band One Direction was honoured at the awards, taking home the silverwear for Best New Act and Biggest Fans while French DJ David Guetta took home the prize of Best Electronic Act.

Looks like the MTV judges are big beliebers.

The DJ winning such a title in itself arguably discredits the validity of the awards in general – his last few tracks have been collaborations with American hip hop artists!

Other winners included Nicki Minaj for Best Hip Hop and Lana Del Ray for Best Alternative Act.
