Bruce Springsteen – you just can’t help but love him. Not only is he an absolute legend, he’s also a bit of craic.
The Irish Sun reports that Bruce opened his first show in the RDS last night by having a laugh and poking fun at the fact that he got in trouble last weekend for breaking a curfew at his London show. In Bruce’s defence though, the only reason he broke the curfew was because he was rocking with Paul McCartney.
Anyway, The Boss continually made light-hearted references to the curfew. He belted out a cover of The Clash’s ‘I Fought the Law’ and declared: “Let that be a lesson to them” when he finished.
“I’m not sure what time the curfew is tonight. Not in Ireland. Never in Ireland,” he added.
Knowing that he would probably have to give in to Dublin City Council’s demands of a curfew, Bruce took to the stage at 7.25pm to avoid short-changing any of his fans.
Last night’s gig was the first of two sell-out shows for Bruce’s Wrecking Ball Tour and it was his first performance in Ireland for more than three years.
Some incredibly dedicated Springsteen fans had been camping outside the RDS since Sunday in order to get into the pit area for the gig, and in typical Irish humour, many had brought Irish flags that poked fun at the curfew order.
One fan arrived with a flag that said: “Open all night – what’s a curfew?” While another flag declared: “It’s only over when The Boss says it’s over.”
If you’re heading to see Bruce tonight, you might want to make sure you get there super-early as Bruce is planning on taking to the stage at 7pm so he doesn’t run over the curfew.
