Motorists are being warned to watch out for “Flat Battery Monday” this week ahead of the back to work rush.

According to Allianz Global Assistance Ireland, they are expecting more than a 40% increase in calls on January 5th as people across Ireland prepare to head back to work on Monday after the Christmas holidays.

Motorists are being reminded that their battery could well be dead if it has been left sitting up over the festive season.

“The problem we have is a lot of people have done very short journeys during the Christmas period,” said Roland Heiss, General Manager at Allianz Global Assistance.

“The battery therefore is depleted and therefore when people then come on Monday morning to start their car, it won’t star.

“So it literally is as simple as – drive the car for a half an hour, as a minimum.”
