Get ready for a week of banter, festivities, culture and everyone claiming to be a bit of Irish.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of the country’s largest and longest-running festivals and it’s back with a bang for its 54th round this weekend…

The festival will run from tonight, Friday August 17th, until Tuesday, August 21st.

The heart of the festival is the selection of the Rose of Tralee which brings young women of Irish descent from around the world to County Kerry, but the Kerry town also promises street entertainment, carnivals, live concerts, theatre, a circus, markets, funfair and fireworks, all kicking off tonight.

More than 50,000 people will line the streets to watch three spectacular parades with over 700 participants, 12 floats, 32 Roses and 10 marching bands…

The Rose Selections in the Dome, presented by Daithi O’Se. You can watch it on RTE1 at 8pm until 11:25pm with a break for the RTE News at Nine.

Tuesday, August 21st:

Live street concert with The Saw Doctors.
