Will The Real Woman Barbie Please Stand Up?! Doll Revamped With Real-Life Measurements

Barbie looking a little more real...

Barbie has been given a makeover… and a very REAL one at that.

The famous doll has been revamped by US artist Nickolay Lamm to have a realistic body shape.

The measurements of an average US 19-year-old girl’s body were used as the unrealistically proportioned doll was changed up, Yahoo! reports.

Twenty-four-year-old artist Lamm set out to create the 3D model with human size dimensions to see if she would still succeed on the market.

Barbie compared to the revamped doll…

Original Barbie has measurements of 36-18-33, Lamm’s Barbie is a much more realistic 32-31-33.

New Barbie’s neck is almost twice as wide as the original, she has shorter legs and a slightly smaller head. She’s shorter and has more womanly curves.

Lamm said: “I wanted to see if an average sized Barbie had market potential.

“A lot of people are saying that we shouldn’t criticise Barbie because she is a toy.

“At the same time, nobody feels its wrong to be critical of skinny models, who are real people with feelings.

“If you think about it, what has more influence on a young girl? Skinny models in ads or Barbie, who she may play with everyday?

“So, if there’s even a small chance of Barbie in its present form negatively influencing girls, and if Barbie looks good as an average sized woman in America, what’s stopping Mattel from making one?”
