Considering the success of Les Miserables recently, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood producers started looking around for another musical to take to the big screen. Due to its huge popularity on Broadway and London stages, it looks like Wicked will be the next production to receive Tinseltown treatment.
In an interview with the “Hollywood Reporter”, Adam Fogelson, chairman for Universal Pictures hinted that we might be seeing the silver screen production of Wicked soon.
Universal is a majority owner for the Broadway musical and Fogelson commented: “Wicked has been an enormous win for this company.”
The chairman continued: “The way it works, we should be in agreement together on when the right time to do this is. But I will tell you I believe that we are collectively moving toward Wicked coming to the screen sooner rather than later.”
The famous musical is based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, an origin story of the witches from the Wizard of Oz and the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, the Wicked Witch and Glinda the Good.
