Why Do We Watch People ‘Tash On’? Battling an MTV Addiction.

We're addicted to Geordie Shore and after last night's heated episode we question why we love it so much!

I don’t know about you guys but for the last few weeks I’ve been glued to MTV every Tuesday night to catch the latest drunken antics of the tanned and trashy Geordie Shore cast. The trailers teased me for weeks and finally the time has come for me to indulge in some mind-numbing ‘tashing on’.

Better still, my favourite party animals have taken a long-haul flight to Cancun where we’re sure a lot of boozy Mexican drama is set to unfold. For those of you who have resisted Geordie Shore for so long, you have my fullest respect because while all my friends are tuning into TV3’s Tonight with Vincent Browne on a Tuesday night I am watching strangely tanned creatures knock back shots and have relations with one another. And I call myself a journalist!

Last night as I watched Vicki and Ricki roar the heads off each other over a spilled drink (literally) I began to question why I have such an addiction to this type of show. How is MTV making so much money by filming drunken antics that surely occur in most nightclubs around the world every Saturday night?

How has watching young people get ‘mortal’ become such a phenomenon? In normal circumstances I hate being sober about a crowd of drunken people yet I am compelled to watch the Geordie Shore gang ‘Get on it ‘til they vomit’ on a regular basis.

Ultimately, I’m too excited about next week’s show to worry about the psychology behind my trashy television addiction. I’m eagerly anticipating the debauchery and bitch fights that are sure to litter the remainder of the season! What did you guys think of last night’s episode?!
