What’s On: Your Guide to the Cinema This Week

Don’t worry, you can still catch the sight of Ryan Gosling in a suit and hear the sound of Hugh Jackman singing his heart out. But that’s not all you can enjoy on the big screen this week…

Flight (12A)

An airline pilot (Denzel Washington) prevents the plane he is flying from crashing but his personal demons soon catch up with him when an investigation is launched.


Lincoln (12A)

Steven Spielberg brings us the story of US President Abraham Lincoln. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field.


Zero Dark Thirty (15A)

This flick, from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, chronicles the decade-long hunt for Osama bin Laden.


Movie 43 (16)

Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman and a host of other A-list stars appear in this comedy made up of a series of interconnected short films.


The Last Stand (15A)

The leader of a drug cartel escapes from a courthouse and heads for the Mexican border but Sheriff Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) stands in his way.


Django Unchained (18)

Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio star in Quentin Tarantino’s western about a freed slave who wants to rescue his wife from a plantation owner.


The Sessions (18)

A man, paralysed from the neck down, decides to hire a sex surrogate so that he can lose his virginity. Starring John Hawkes and Helen Hunt.

Gangster Squad (15A)

A group of police officers take matters into their own hands in order to chase mafia-types out of Los Angeles. Starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone and Josh Brolin.


Les Misérables (12A)

Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried star in this musical epic about a man who takes pity on a poor factory worker and decides to look after her daughter.


The Impossible (12A)

This intense film tells the story of a family on holiday in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami strikes. Starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.


Life of Pi (PG)

A young man survives a disaster while at sea and is soon catapulted into a world of adventure. Along the way he develops a strong bond with a tiger.


The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (12A)

This Lord of the Rings prequel goes back 60 years to when Gandalf asks Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) to help a group of dwarves reclaim their home from a dragon. Along the way they encounter quite a few interesting characters including one that keeps mentioning his precious.
