If you’re thinking about tying the knot, you might want to start saving now.

The average Irish couple spends just under €20,000 on their wedding day, along with a further €5,000 on a honeymoon.

That’s according to a survey carried out on over 2,400 brides and grooms by mrs.2be.ie

The wide-ranging survey outlined several major trend related to the big day:

  • December is the most popular month to get engaged
  • Almost three-quarters of couples still opt for a church wedding
  • The most popular number of bridesmaids is three
  • Most couples are engaged for 13-18 months before the wedding
  • A quarter of couples will be living together for five years or more before they wed
  • The average number of guests is from 101 to 150
  • The average cost per head for guests is €41 to €50
