THIS IS WHAT REAL LOVE LOOKS LIKE…
We’re in that weird limbo state between Christmas and New Year, and the smallest of things has us emotional – just me?!
Old people shopping together, puppies, little Robins sharing stale bread (that actually happened this afternoon and I had a moment), and engagement celebrations.
Without going into full-scale Marti Pellow mode, love really is all around us… but no one has ever expressed it quite like Carlow man Brian Cashin.
It is a story 8 years in the making, but Cashin decided to ask the love of his life, Hazel Coogan, to marry him in a pretty special, and truly dedicated, way.
Gathering footage over the last six years, Cashin edited a fake movie trailer over a five-to-six month period before getting down on one knee. (Yes, SIX YEARS, and MONTHS of secret editing).
TV editor by trade, Cashin spoke to our brothers (and hopeless romantics) over at JOE.ie earlier today:
“I had the idea to start making the video about six years ago and started filming random bits and pieces for it through the years. More recently, I started editing the video every night when she went to sleep and did that on most nights for about five to six months.
“Hazel had no idea, she pretty much only realised what was going on when she saw herself on the screen and then she nearly died”.

Cashin, who worked on Canadian Big Brother and Ireland’s Fittest Family amongst other projects, organised a private cinema screening for the couple.
Get your cry-faces ready, folks, this is lovely.
Oh, and men of Ireland, you may just give up now…
