Was Your Facebook App Crashing A Lot Recently? Turns Out It Was Planned

This makes SO MUCH SENSE NOW.

Ellen Tannam

Apps crash sometimes. It’s frustrating, but it’s a part of life. Right? Apparently not.

If you are an Android user who has noticed your Facebook app crashing so often it actually frustrated you, we can offer you some relief that it was in fact not all just in your head.

The Verge report that Facebook sabotaged its app over the years in an effort to see how far people would be pushed before uninstalling the app. You are not crazy.

Apparently, the tests were in an effort to prepare for a conflict with Google who were apparently going to remove their apps from the Play Store, which is why the errors were not experienced by iPhone users.

Interestingly, those who were experiencing frequent errors still needed their Facebook fix, with many of them reverting to using the website on their mobile internet browsers.

It just goes to show that our addiction to the website overrides the rage that occurs when the app crashes JUST before you get to read that juicy cryptic status you know is about someone in your group of friends.
