Starting off with a love story that we’ve somewhat seen brewing (after five full seasons!) Carson finally asks Mrs. Hughes to marry him – not long after suggesting that they invest in property together.
“Take your time to decide, but know that I’m not marrying anyone else,” he tells her, to which she smartly replies, “I thought you’d never ask!”
Wooop – finally some more wedding bells!
Meanwhile the ongoing saga surrounding Anna and Bates comes to a climax, as Anna is released on bail while Bates gets an alibi for the murder.
Elsewhere, the Crawley family are off to Northumberland for a shooting party which of course, won’t be without its drama with Lady Mary plotting some devious tricks with Barrow.
The drama reaches crisis point when an uninvited guest arrives with a small boy in tow who turns out to be Lord Sinderby’s love child. Will Lady Rose be able to save his reputation?
Meanwhile yet another suitor for Mary appears on the scene, while the Dowager and Isabel have a lot of men troubles back home.
Tom is preparing for change as he prepares to bid farewell to Downton and pack up and head for the USA, while it seems that Rose and her new husband Atticus could be following in his footsteps has Atticus is offered a job in New York.
Lady Edith may also have a new man on the scene while the ongoing feud between Denker and Spratt (the Dowager’s staff) is ongoing and finally reaches a head.
