A Japanese artist, who makes vagina themed art based on moulds of her own genitals, has been arrested in Japan on suspicion of breaking obscenity laws.
Megumi Igarashi was arrested after distributing 3D prints of her vagina to more than 30 people. The artist, who now works under the pseudonym Rokudenashiko, had previously crowd-funded a project to make a two-meter long kayak shaped like a vagina.
Rokudenashiko is defending herself against the arrest, claiming she didn’t swap her images in return for money, and does not recognise it as obscene.
The 42-year-old, who made a name for herself with a series of dioramas based on sculptures of her vagina, explained her choice of artwork on her website writing:
“Why did I start making these kind of art pieces? That was because I had not seen a p*ssy of others and worried too much about mine.
“I did not know what a p*ssy should look like at the same time I thought mine is just abnormal.”
According to the Huffington Post, a Change.org petition has been set up calling for the immediate release of the artist, and has already gathered more than 13,000 signatures.
