A city councilman took a novel approach at handing in his resignation this week, penning the letter in Klingon – the fictitious language spoken in the Star Trek universe.
In an interview, David Waddell councilman of Indian Trail in North Carolina, said that the Star Trek reference was an inside joke, but included a translation – just in case!
“Folks don’t know what to think of me half the time,” said Waddell, “I might as well have one last laugh”.

The letter was sent to Mayor Michael Alvarez who called the letter “an embarrassment for Indian Trail, and it’s an embarrassment for North Carolina”.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Waddell is resigning from his first term on the board. His four-year seat would have expired next year in December, 2015.
The local news organisation said that Waddell left his post because of his frustrations with how requests for public information were dealt with.
