New laws passed by the UAE will see tourists and locals fined and deported for swearing online.

The new law will also impose a fine of Dh250,000 (€60,504) to those who are seen breaching the new rules.

Under the new legislation, natives will face jail time for those who fail to pay the fine, while tourists and expats living in the country could face deportation for breaking the rules.

According to Metro UK, the Federal Supreme Court had already overturned two convictions of a man fined Dh3,000 for swearing at someone on WhatsApp – claiming the punishment was too lenient.

According to daily Dubai newspaper Emarat Al Youm:

“FSC supported the prosecutor’s appeal and affirmed the need for the enforcement of the law governing information technology crimes involving a Dh250,000 fine and deportation from the country.”

So if you’re travelling to Dubai you might want to mind your ps and qs… and definitely don’t lose your cool.
