Britney Spears is quitting the US X Factor, according to reports.
American website TMZ has reported that the judge, who faced criticism for her performance on the show, decided to leave in order to focus on her music.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the writing was already on the wall for the pop star.
“Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato, but her thing is music,” an anonymous source told TMZ.
The Hollywood Reporter said it had got word from a show insider that the singer would not have been asked back for season three, suggesting that Britney just aimed to quit before she was asked to leave.

It also claimed that Britney, who apparently bagged 15 million dollars to judge the second series along with Simon Cowell, LA Reid and Demi, had not been given official word on her future on the show. But the website cited a double-digit dip in ratings, her performance on the live shows and media criticism.
Fellow judge LA Reid has previously announced his exit.
X Factor bosses could now have two judging vacancies.
The show’s broadcaster FOX has yet to comment on the news.
