Make your world a little greener by conserving energy at home with these simple tips. Bonus? You'll save money too!

Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next month.

  1. Light It Up

You know the way in cartoons, whenever the character has a good idea a light bulb appears over their head? Well if it’s a really good idea, chances are that that is an energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb. Switching to this kind of bulb may cost more initially, but there’s no doubting they save money in the long run by using only 1/4 the energy of an ordinary incandescent bulb and lasting 8-12 times longer. Believe it or not, only 10 per cent of the energy consumed by a regular light bulb is on generating light – the rest simply makes the bulb hot! So, flick the switch and see the difference in your bills.
