Make your world a little greener by conserving energy at home with these simple tips. Bonus? You'll save money too!

Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next month.

19. Check your fridge door

If you want to keep your food cool and your energy bill low, it’s important to make sure that your fridge door is working properly.

Now, we don’t mean that you should get up, open it and close it again and just assume that everything is working perfectly fine because you can do that. What we mean is that you need to check the seal on your fridge door.

This seal helps to regulate the temperature inside your fridge and also stops the cool air from escaping. If there’s a leak in the seal, not only will your food suffer but your purse will suffer too as your fridge will be playing catch-up trying to cool the food and will actually be using even more energy in the long run.

Thankfully there’s a simple test that you can do to see if your fridge seal is working exactly as it should. Simply get a five euro note, open your fridge door and then close it on the money. Next, try and pull the money out.

If you can pull it out easily then it’s a sign that you need to get your fridge seal replaced pronto in order to save energy and cut down on your electrical costs.
