Her smile is worth a thousand words.
87-year-old Nelly Jacobs is hitting headlines everywhere as an amazing clip was captured of her riding a horse for possibly one of the last times.
According to The Huffington Post, the octogenarian, who lives in The Netherlands, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 30 years ago which meant she had to start using a wheelchair.
The effects of Parkinson’s disease meant that Nelly had to stop riding horses, which was her first love in life as her earlier years in life were spent as a competitive showjumper.
To allow the horse-loving Nelly ride a horse once more, her son Jan and charities Green Cross and The Care Group teamed up to give her a special surprise.
As part of a project called ‘Hidden Desires’, a carriage which can hold people flat on top of two horses was created.
In the video, filmed by Dutch Beeldwerk TV, Nelly is taken to the stables and feels the hay, smelling it and feeding the horses. She whispers ‘heerlijk’ in absolute awe of the horses, which in English means ‘wonderful.’
Her son and one of the carriage drivers then bring her to the horses where she is lifted from her chair and strapped in.
As the carriage starts to slowly move off, Nelly is seen lying back showing utter joy at this moment, and as she feels the sensation of the horses beneath her, the smile she makes at the end is just so heart-warming.
Have the tissues ready for this one…
