This Video Of A 40-Year-Old Deaf Woman Hearing For The First Time Will Break Your Heart

If you can get through this without crying, you are much stronger than us.

This is Joanne Milne, a 40-year-old deaf woman who has not been able to hear since birth. Due to a rare disease called Usher Syndrome, Joanne’s sight has also been declining since her early 20’s.

However, with a lot of campaigning, she finally got the go ahead for an operation for cochlear implants. According to the Journal UK, Joanne had to wait four weeks before she could find out if the operation was a success.

Friends captured the moment that she heard for the first time on camera. Even more beautiful, the first song she heard was John Lennon’s Imagine.

She told the paper: “Hearing things for the first time is so emotional from the ping of a light switch to running water. I can’t stop crying and I can already foresee how it’s going to be life changing.”

This broke our hearts.
