If you’re an attractive looking lady and want to raise some funds for a charity, this new nugget of research could be just the answer…
According to the latest study of competitive male egos, men are more likely to donate larger sums of money and compete with the biggest donation amongst other males when an attractive woman owns the fundraising page.
To take part in the study, 668 fundraising pages from the 2014 London Marathon were asked to include a photo of the person raising money. The fundraiser would also had to have received one donation larger than £75, which was counted as ‘generous’ by researchers.
Researchers then showed each fundraiser’s page to four people, who rated the attractiveness of the profile on a scale of one to 10. The team then examined each page before and after each donation.
The authors of the study published in Current Biology, found that men donated significantly more to women who were rated more attractive. The findings also revealed that male donations that were seen as ‘generous’ (above £75) by one man, were four times more likely to generate competing large sum donations to the fundraising page too.
While researchers claim men did this subconsciously, a male fundraiser’s attractiveness did not seem to influence women’s donations to the respective charities.
