These were the most rejected baby names in 2015

In fairness though...

There’s no messing when it comes to baby names in New Zealand.

In fact, the country has a list of very specific rules which dictate what is and isn’t an acceptable name for a baby.

Names with royal, religious or offensive connotations can be vetoed by the state in accordance with the 1995 Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Act.

No surprise then that topping the list of names which landed on the cutting room floor in 2015 were Messiah, King, Royal, Prince, Royale, Bishop, Empress and Princess.

Parents who tried to be clever with spelling or punctuation also met a dead end, with Royaal and Royahl both on the reject list.

The most rejected names in New Zealand last year were:

1. Messiah

2. King

3. Royal

4. Prince
