These Are the Dirtiest Places in Your Home…

Some are obvious, others not so much

Rebecca McKnight

We don’t know about you but we are a bit paranoid when it comes to germs which is why we decided to do a bit of research and find out where the dirtiest places in the house are (apart from the toilet of course). Here’s what we found…

Chopping Boards

While this might seem like an obvious one, considering that you prepare food on them, you might be surprised to hear that chopping boards can harbour 200 per cent more faecal bacteria than the average toilet seat.

Handbags

A recent survey revealed that your handbag is the perfect breeding ground for germs and one of the dirtiest places in your home… which is probably why you shouldn’t put it on the dining table or kitchen counter when you get in from work.

Keyboards

It is a well-known fact that computer and laptop keyboards are home to harmful germs which means you should regularly clean them with sanitising wipes and always wash you hands after being on your computer.

The Bed

You sleep there and you sweat there, creating the perfect atmosphere for dust mites and germs. Recently it was revealed that not making your bed is a good way to combat pests.

Toothbrushes

Every time you flush a toilet, it releases an aerosol spray which means, if your toothbrush is nearby, it’s probably covered in faecal matter. The moral of this story is: keep your toothbrush at least two metres away from your toilet and always put the lid down before you flush.

The Television Remote

Everyone touches it which means if they have a cold or haven’t washed their hands after using the toilet, you could get a cold and may as well not have washed your hands after using the toilet. We will never eat and click again.

The Kitchen Sponge

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Sponges are used to clean an array of dirty surfaces and they hold moisture which results in lots of bacteria. Not ideal when you’re using the same sponge to clean something else.

Makeup Bags

Like the handbag there are loads of things in here that can lead to the spread of germs including brushes and sponges. Clean yours out regularly to combat this and avoid the risk of an eye or skin infection.
