Despite the influx of mammy porn, mystery thrillers and Harry Potter, The Koran has been named the most popular book of all time.

The religious copy, which has been translated into more than 50 different languages, has also had more than three billion copies printed.

Rounding off the top 5 were The King James Bible, Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, Mao Zedong, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes and JK Rowling’s wizardry adventures of Harry Potter.

1. The Harry Potter Series, by J.K Rowling: According to the American Library Association, the Harry Potter series is the most banned book series in all of America. Why? Well, it contains themes of death, resurrection, witchcraft, sorcery and makes various references to the occult and Satanism, naturally. It seems ridiculous, but there are still people fighting to ban Harry Potter completely.

The top 10 list, devised by lovereading.com, takes into account the number of editions, translations and copies sold per title.
