A new report from the Oireachtas Health Committee could see the price of a bottle of wine being set at €10 per bottle.
The report, which will be considered by the Government, will apparently advise them to up the minimum price for a unit of alcohol.
According to the Irish Examiner, €1.10 per unit is the upper price limit being considered at the moment.
If passed, the minimum price for a bottle of wine will therefore be set at €10 per bottle.
“Ireland has taken the lead in public health measures before, smoking being the best example, and minimum unit price will affect alcohol consumption in Ireland and it will stop the really-low-price selling that, in particular, supermarkets do,” stated consultant endocrinologist Professor Donal O’Shea to the Irish Examiner.
