In the age of all things digital, it’s not all that surprising that the social media trend has become engrained in the wedding circuit.
We’ve heard of brides asking their friends to keep her big day off Facebook, but the latest trend is just one step off taking up a new partner’s name.
According to a survey from TheKnot.com and Mashable, 55% of newlyweds have adopted a new tradition – a wedding hashtag.

The newest trending theme at the wedding is a couple’s hashtag, with the tradition jumping from 9% of couple’s using the practice in 2012 to 55% of newlyweds signing off on their big day with a social media banner.
The study also found that of the couples who were married in 2014, a third of them posted their engagement to their social media channels within two hours of accepting the proposal.
The most popular couple hashtag? Well everything from #TheSmiths to combination nicknames (we’re looking at you #Kimye) remain popular with couples, while there is even a social media concierge service who will handle your media channels in the run up to your big day. We can only assume the $3,000 fee includes a quirky hashtag.
Although the one rule of wedding social media?
No posted pics of the bride before she says, “I do.”
But don’t forget the hashtag.
