Erena Shimoda, a San Francisco-based photographer also known as the ‘underwater healer‘, has been helping cancer survivors rediscover their beauty and shed their insecurities with the help of an amazing undercover water project.
Speaking to My Modern Net, she explained the inspiration for the idea came following a fatal car crash that claimed the life of her father and left her badly injured.
“By helping other people, I was helping overcome my painful experience,” she told the website.
She explained that the photographs are a therapeutic way of helping individuals overcome their insecurities and feel beautiful once again.
“In the water, people rediscover their beauty, strength and capability. ”
The photographer continued to explain that submerging oneself in water helps individuals confront “physical and mental challenges”.
