It’s a well known fact that with the 12 days of Christmas comes the season of holiday hook-ups and parting presence.
According to new research carried out by NBC, there are two times of the year when break-ups most frequently occur – March and Christmas time.
Forget the festive cheer, the conscious uncoupling at Christmas is so common that it’s even been christened with its own name – the turkey drop.
So what motivates fellas giving their gals the flick at Christmas?
The study found that the most common reason men decided to ditch their other half in December is to avoid a deeper commitment to the relationship then he is willing to give.
From meeting parents to childhood friends, men quoted not wanting to introduce their other half to their important family and friendship ties as one of the tell-tale signs of needing to call it quits.
Other factors included wanting to start a new year with a fresh start, and not wanting to pick up a gift for the other half (in which case, we think she had a lucky escape!)
So whether you’re currently the victim of a turkey drop, or feel one coming on, be rest assured that like Wham, you can give that heart to someone special for 2015.
