The One Change You Need To Make To Your Diet This Year

It really is as easy as that!

Eating healthily is so expensive isn’t it? And it’s so hard to cook. And it takes much longer to make…

Are these some of the excuses you keep telling yourself as you reach for the pizza delivery menu when you get in from work? There’s a common misconception that eating healthily is hard to do but it’s a lot easier than you think especially when supermarkets and shops are now supplying a vast range of whole foods that are as cheap as pasta and rice, cook in less time and taste amazing with nutrient packed veggie’s.

Our pick of the bunch for 2013 is quinoa. Pronounced keen-wa this super food has been available in most big supermarkets for the last couple of years and has been slowly but surely gaining popularity amongst healthy conscious foodies. Originally grown in the Andes in South America, the UN has declared 2013 the international year of quinoa so we expect to see it popping up everywhere in the next 12 months.

The wholesome little grain packs a punch

So what’s so great about it? Although it looks like a grain and the dreaded c-word… a carb, it actually belongs to the same family as spinach and beetroot and is high in protein and fibre, helping to regulate blood sugar and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Plus, it’s super high in iron and magnesium which help energy levels, muscle function and metal clarity… perfect for beating the January blues as you lie slumped over your desk in a deep post-Christmas depression!

From salads to hearty vegetarian stews, we’re making quinoa our go-to gourmet staple this new year.
