If you haven’t hit the cinemas yet to see the new James Bond film Skyfall, you’d better get there soon.
The new Bond has shot to the top of the box office rankings around the world and notched up one of the biggest UK openings of all time.
But it wasn’t all gold for Bond, the 23rd movie of the franchise failed to topple the record set by a small wizard by the name of Harry Potter. 007 had to stick to being happy with scoring the second biggest Friday-to-Sunday opening weekend in UK history.
Now we’re just waiting for the Irish results…
The movie, starring Daniel Craig, took an estimated £20.1m (€25m) in the UK, making it the biggest opening of the year so far, Deadline reported today.
But it failed to smash the UK record set by Harry Potter and his friends, in their final film of the wizard series, which was released in 3D last year.
And Daniel Craig can relax. He might be getting older but he hasn’t lost his touch. In the UK, Skyfall beat the opening weekends of previous Bond films with Craig in the title role, Casino Royale and the follow-up Quantum Of Solace.
We’re wondering does it have anything to do with our favourite girl Adele’s spine-chilling theme tune…?
Skyfall notched up 77.7m (€60m) across the globe, and was number one in every country where it opened.
Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall also stars the lovely Judi Dench as secret service boss M, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Javier Bardem, as Bond’s nemesis Silva, and Ben Whishaw, as Q.
Its world premiere took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London last week.
A definite for the ‘must-see-in-the-cinema’ list…
