Following the success of The Guard, Brendan Gleeson and John Michael McDonagh are combining forces yet again for the big screen.

The pair who worked on the 2011 hit film are currently working on the follow-up entitled Calvary.

Brendan and John enjoyed incredible success with The Guard last year.

Brendan Gleeson will also be joined by Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd as well as his son Domhnall Gleeson who appeared most recently in Anna Karenina alongside Keira Knightley.

In the dark comedy, Gleeson plays quite a different character to that of Sergeant Gerry Boyle. In fact he is a Priest who aims to make the world a better place but is brought down by those around him.

Chris O’Dowd is also set to star in the production due out next year.

Speaking about the production, director John Michael McDonagh said: “It is with great excitement, bordering on tumescence, that I am looking forward to collaborating once more with Ireland’s greatest actor, Brendan Gleeson, and working with the finest ensemble cast ever assembled in the history of Irish cinema.

Shooting has already begun in Co.Sligo for the film which is due for release next year.
