Everyone loves a elegant glass of champagne to celebrate a happy occasion and while the recession may have curbed our enthusiasm with regards to the bubbly it seems that our penny-pinching drink days are over.
The Daily Mail reports that the sale of champagne has skyrocketed in the past six months, hitting record highs after a three-year lull.
Champers sales have reportedly hit the roof and Richard Brierley of Vanquish Wine in the UK, revealed that his business is struggling to keep up with demand.
He reports that €137 (£110) bottles of Dom Perignon are flying out his door by the caseload as tipple-lovers desperately crave a glass of bubbly.

People are spending more on little luxuries figures show
“Our team are seeing extraordinary demand for the best brands of champagne, including Krug, Dom Perignon and Louis Roederer’s Cristal.
“I think a glass or bottle of champagne is an affordable luxury that people are willing to have as a treat,” he said.
Champagne has longed been viewed as Hollywood’s most desirable bevvie and Cristal, in particular, is a favourite of Kanye West, who often name-drops the brand in his tunes.
Her.ie is delighted to hear the news. Taking the wine shortage into account, we think we’ll definitely be ordering a glass of champers from now on, but only if someone else is buying. We’re not sure our pockets are ready for that bombshell just yet.
