We just made the cut!
Anyone from Ireland is obviously going to expect that us fun-loving laid back Irish people would make the top of the list, when in fact, we only just made it.
Expat Insider put together a massive survey of people who chose to move abroad and what they make of the countries they live in. The results were fascinating.
The surveyed 14,000 people about everything from job security, to education to quality of life.
One of the most interesting findings, was about friendliness. Taiwan topped the post for the friendliest country for expats, while Uganda came in second. Ireland however came 20th in a shortlist of 67 countries. We’re surprised it wasn’t a little higher, but at least we are in the top 20!
Here is a list of the other countries that ranked in the top 20.
- Taiwan
- Uganda
- Costa Rica
- Mexico
- Colombia
- Oman
- Philippines
- New Zealand
- Vietnam
- Portugal
- Brazil
- Spain
- Ecuador
- Canada
- Romania
- Bahrain
- Malta
- Indonesia
- Ukraine
- Ireland
Each country had a in depth diagram drawn out of all the findings, and Ireland’s results were very interesting.

Overall, we came 56th in the best countries for expats. 72% of expats were satisfied with their move to Ireland and the number 1 reason people move to Ireland is because they were recruited by a company.
The biggest from expats seem to have with Ireland is the weather. That one certainly doesn’t surprise us.
