The petition has received a mixed reaction.

Teenager Jewel Moore has launched a petition, asking Disney to create a plus-sized princess.

Jewel, from Farmville, Virginia, explained why she started the petition on her Change.org page:

“I’m a Junior in high school named Jewel. I made this petition because I’m a plus-size young woman, and I know many plus-size girls and women who struggle with confidence and need a positive plus-size character in the media.”

The high school student believes a plus-sized Disney princess would encourage body confidence for in her opinion, Disney princess characters are unrealistically thin.

Her petition explains her reasons for beginning this campaign: “If Disney could make a plus-size female protagonist who was as bright, amazing, and memorable as their others, it would do a world of good for those plus-size girls out there who are bombarded with images that make them feel ugly for not fitting the skinny standard.”

Jewel has had supporters leave comments on her page agreeing with her views, “If young girls see that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, they can change how society views it,” wrote one person.

However, not everyone is of the same opinion as can be seen on the Change.org page.

One comment reads, “I hate the term “plus-size” its merely a way to sugarcoat reality to fat, over weight people…”
