If you’ve ever been a nervous flier, this latest study might help put your mind at rest.
While the age old debate for the safest seats on a plane has raged on, TIME magazine finally has the answer to taking the safest flight possible.
According to experts, you should ditch the aisle and window seats if you want to ensure you’re sitting in the safest spot.
Middle seats in the rear of the aircraft are the safest place to sit.
According to TIME:
“The middle of the cabin, historically, has the highest overall fatality rates–more specifically the middle aisle seats….The fatality rate [in middle seats near the back of the plane] is 28%, compared to 44% [in the aisle seats in the middle of the plane]”.
Where else should you aim to park yourself if your preferred spots are booked up?
It may seem obvious, but the two rows closest to the emergency exit are the next tipped to get you out of an accident or emergency safely.
The advice is based on the results of 17 crashes over the past 30 years.
So what else can you do to make the most of safety precautions?
Remember to follow all safety instructions, pay attention to flight stewards during their safety demonstrations and to keep your seat belt on to increase your odds of safely surviving an emergency landing.
