Motorists are being warned to take extra care this evening as Met Éireann have issued a weather warning for a number of counties across the country.
The Irish forecaster has issued a snow and ice warning and predicts that counties Donegal, Longford, Westmeath, Cavan and Monaghan along with Connacht will be the worst affected this afternoon and later this evening, with rain showers expected to turn to sleet throughout the day.
Some areas of the country have already reported snow today, with more forecast to fall over the weekend.

Motorists are being advised to be extra vigilant this evening as visibility is expected to be extremely poor.
