Yes, you read that headline correctly.

If you’re a fan of the suggestive winky face, the Señorita or sign off texts with a monkey emoji, you’ll find this research very interesting.

According to a new study, people who use emojis are likely to be having more sex.

On Wednesday, dating site Match.com revealed the result to its annual survey “Singles in America”.

The result revealed that from the 5,675 single people polled (representative of the US population as a whole, based on census results) found a positive correlation between sex and use of emojis.

In an interview with TIME, New Jersey’s Rutgers University, Biological Anthropologist, Helen Fisher, who conducted the study said: “It turns out that 54 per cent of emoji users had sex in 2014 compared to 31 per cent of singles who did not”.

“Here we have a new technology that absolutely jeopardises your ability to express your emotion,” Fisher continued.

“There is no more subtle inflection of the voice … and so we have created another way to express emotions and that is the emoji”.

The most popular emoji included the Wink at 53 per cent, Smiley at 38 per cent and Kiss at 27 percent.

Study also found that single men were more likely to use a kiss and Heart Eyes emoji, while single women opt for Smiley and Kiss emojis.

If that’s not enough, the survey discovered that not only are emoji users likely to have more sex but they go on more dates too.

They are also two times more likely to get married.
