A Starbuck’s coffee shop in the heart of Hong Kong’s financial district has come under fire for apparently brewing coffee with water from a parking garage bathroom
According to Time magazine, a local newspaper entitled Apple Daily released photos of a faucet just feet away from a urinal which was marked for Starbucks use.
The store has also jumped to defend the decision to use the water from the faucet:“There is no direct water supply to that particular store, that’s why we need to obtain the drinking water from the nearest source in the building,” Starbucks spokeswoman Wendy Pang said.

Apparently the shop has now switched to using distilled water instead of the water from the faucet, but the decision has certainly come under fire from its customers.
“The initial decision by Starbucks to use water from toilet is a clear sign of your company’s vision and the level of (dis)respect your company has for the health and mind of your customers,” a Facebook user wrote on the Starbucks’ Hong Kong Facebook wall.
Even though the water in Hong Kong is sanitized, many have pointed out that the real issue is the potential risk of transferring pathogens from the rest room envoirnment.
