Spend A Little: How Being Too Cheap Can Impact Your Health This Winter

We all love to save money, but sometimes it can be taken a step too far...

Her

We’re all keen to be a frugal and a bit more of a thrifty lady in this current economic climate, but sometimes our money-saving and purse-clutching can go a step too far.

Cutting back on certain aspects of your budget could mean you are cutting back on certain aspects of your health too.

Here are the five areas where scrimping does not make sense:

Avoiding The Doctor

Avoiding the doctor because of the fee is penny-wise, but pound-foolish. Your health is worth far more than your wealth. Don’t resort to suffering to protect your purse. Always visit your GP if you have a problem.

DIY Gym

You might have given your gym membership a skip this year and that is fair enough. Doing exercises in your house can be a great way to keep fit but you need to be careful. Check with the local gym if the moves you are doing are safe or invest in an exercise DVD for a few euro online and follow the instructor’s moves.

Eating Cheap

Buying cheap processed food high in calories and cholesterol is just asking for danger. Yes, the burger and chips is cheaper than your normal meat and two veg meal, but it will cost you in artery-clogging fat somewhere down the line.

Take Eye-Care

Sometimes contact lens wearers can believe it is a cheaper option to wear their lenses beyond their best before date. It is a cheaper option, but not when it comes to your eye-health. You could end up with a nasty eye infection. Instead, make sure you wear your glasses more and keep your contacts for more special occasions.

Freezing Yourself

You might be trying to save on utility bills, but a hefty medication bill could pass your savings out if you end up sick. It’s no necessary to turn off the heating altogether to save, the smallest tweaks in your utility bill routine can make all the difference. Check out some top tips here on saving on your bills this winter.
