Who ever said that Tuesday wasn't a good night for television? Well they couldn't be more wrong as tonight is offering up some real gems...

Rebecca McKnight

Two semi-finals, a box office hit and the return of an award-winning series are among our television picks for tonight. So forget about what you’ve planned because the best place for you to be is on the sofa.

The Gathering: Homeward Bound – RTÉ One (7:00pm)

In this week’s show, the ladies are in for a treat as Niall Breslin of Blizzards fame returns to his hometown. As well as reconnecting with his local community, Bressie also helps to reunite a brother and sister who haven’t spoken for 30 years. Aww, and there we thought he was just nice to look at.

The Great British Bake Off – BBC Two (8:00pm)

With a place in the final up for grabs, the competition is fierce on tonight’s show. Brendan, Danny, James and John have to turn their hands to a trio of classic patisserie confections. Just a warning, watching this will make you want to eat something delicious and devilish.

Mamma Mia! – UTV (8:00pm)

Whether you’re a fan of Abba or not, this comedy/musical is great fun and has a stellar cast including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan. It’s about a girl who is getting married and wants her father to walk her down the aisle. Thing is, she doesn’t know who he is!

Styled to Rock – Sky Living (9:00pm)

Tonight the four semi-finalists have to design outfits for Girls Aloud singer Nicole Roberts, rapper Tinchy Stryder and songwriter Little Boots. The three who do the best will go through to next week where they will compete for the opportunity to style chart-topper Rihanna.

Fresh Meat – Channel 4 (10:00pm)

The first series was an unprecedented success so there will be high hopes for the second series of Fresh Meat which airs tonight. The group of friends are back for Spring Term which will undoubtedly bring more than a few hilarious surprises.
