It might be Monday but rather than get bogged down by the back-to-work blues, we’re planning our next road trip.
As much as we love holidays abroad, there’s a lot to be said for a local staycation and this week, we’re focusing on Glencolmcille in Co. Donegal.
The Gaeltacht village has been described as a haven of peace and promises an unspoilt environment which sounds like the dream if we’re honest.
It boasts mountains, lakes, sea cliffs and beaches resulting in some pretty amazing views.
If you’re a history buff, this spot is well worth a visit as it was here that Saint Colmcille established an early Christian settlement in the 6th century.
Another attraction is Glencolmcille Folk Museum and it draws a considerable number of visitors due to its reputation as one of Ireland’s best living-history museums.
This cottage village is designed so that visitors can go back in time and have an authentic experience of life in a rural village.
So if you’re in the mood for a little downtime, then this coastal hamlet comes highly recommended and to plan your trip, check out Discover Ireland.
