Seven Moments… All Irish Drivers Have Experienced

The struggle is real

It’s fair to say that Irish drivers are a unique breed. From the classic finger wave, to blessing ourselves when we pass a graveyard, we’re not like any other nationality when it comes to hitting the road.

Here are seven moments all Irish drivers have experienced.

1. The anxious wait in the NCT Centre

Waiting to get the news after the most expensive test of your life is no picnic.

2. The realisation someone is watching you rocking out behind the wheel

You’re flying down the open road. You’re feeling good. You’re belting out Crazy In Love at the top of your lungs. It’s a beautiful moment – until you spot someone in the car next to you laughing at you. Roaring laughing.

3. Coming face to face with this sight

Farm animals rule the roads of rural Ireland. Fact. When they’re on the move, they’re on the move – and there’s nothing we can do about it. Many of us came face-to-face with a flock of sheep en route to school on a regular basis – there are some things money just can’t buy.

4. Doing the sign of the cross when passing a graveyeard

To do it or not to do it? Will it bring bad luck if you don’t? Will it make any difference to your life if you do bless yourself? One of life’s great mysteries.

5. Getting a flat tyre…

On a back road in the middle of nowhere. In the lashing rain. At night. Every Irish driver’s worst nightmare.

6. The absolute horror…

Of getting your tax, insurance and NCT within a few weeks of each other. That amounts to one very expensive month. The struggle is real.

7. Biting your tongue when you’ve got a back seat driver

You didn’t ask for their opinion on the best road to take, and yet they’re offering it up. Over and over again.
